Summer Provision Programme 2024

9th Jul 2024

We were very lucky to have eighteen wonderful children participating in this years summer provision programme. The theme this year 2024 was Building Confidence and Connections and I think it’s fair to say that over the two weeks of the programme the children really did so.

We had three fantastic groups led by the teachers Ms Black, Ms Smyth and Ms Conroy working alongside a fantastic team of SNA's. As they say, 'Team work makes the dream work'. Thanks to Lorraine, Cristina, Mags, Louise, Norah, Debbie, Annemarie and Shawna for all their help with the summer programme this year.

Week One: The programme commenced the day after we finished up school. It was full steam ahead and the children had a great range of activities each day and something for every child to enjoy. Things kicked off with a wonderful art workshop with Kitty and Pie founder Leanne. The children made pom pom friends which turned out really well. Over the next few days the children were put through different tasks and challenges, activities for both fine and gross motor skills were incorporated in to each days schedule.  The children had a trip to Broomfiled Equestrian where they all really enjoyed some equine therapy with Jacinta. Some of the children were pure naturals with the ponies and it was lovely to see them have an instant connection with their new four legged friends. Over the following days the children also participated in a music workshop with Jane from Jo Jingles, a lego workshop with The Brickz Club and they had a tremendous time cupcake decorating with Bernadette Black from Coulter and Black who was so generous and giving with her time and knowledge. The cupcakes looked fantastic and tasted delicious.

Week Two: It was full steam ahead once again for week two. The children participated in several more activities and workshops. DP Gymnastics Sally and Sophie visited the children to help them perfect their cartwheels and tumbles. Annemarie from Drogheda Library visited us for a spot of story telling, songs and rhymes which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We definitely have some budding chefs in our school. They made delicious pizzas, fruit salads and marshmallow pops.  The children also had a fantastic day trip to Newgrange Farm where they got to feed lambs and calves, hold baby chicks, play in the sand and water areas and go on a super trip in the tractor and trailer around the farm itself.  Some other activities the children participated in throughout the programme included art activities, tie dying, musical instrument making, trips to the playground, planting seeds to name but a few.   For the last day of the programme, we were eagerly awaiting a visit from Bobo the pony, two litle guinea pigs and some goats and also a visit from The Creature Crew who brought a variety of animals with them to meet and greet the children. A busy last day before a well deserved rest for the children.

Well done to all the children who participated in this years programme. You really made it very special and one to remember. Have a fantastic Summer and we will be looking forward to seeing you all again at the end of August.
