Sixth Class Trip to Dáil Éireann
On Thursday 12th October, our three Sixth Classes travelled to Dublin to visit Leinster House. The children had a fantastic morning visiting Dáil Éireann.
Firstly, they visited the Dáil chamber and sat in the gallery to watch several TDs speaking on a motion. Then, the children were brought around the interior of the building and got to see the portraits of Ireland’s former Taoisigh. At this point, Local TD Fergus O’Dowd who arranged our tour to Dáil Éireann greeted the children and spoke with them for a while. Next, the children visited Seanad Éireann and got to listen to their tour guide Martin explaining the workings of the Dáil, the Seanad and the President when it comes to making and signing off on laws in Ireland.
After the children finished their tour, they were met by none other than Minister for Education Norma Foley out on the front steps of Leinster House. Ms. Foley spent some time answering the children’s questions, asking them about their school and what subjects they hoped to study at secondary school next year. The sun shone for the children’s visit to Dublin and a wonderful day was had by all.
The children spent time the next day writing recounts about their visit to Dáil Éireann. Please find below images from the children’s visit.
