Senior Infants and the new Maths Curriculum.
The new primary maths curriculum in action in Ms. Kierans/Ms. Pentony's Senior Infants. In the new maths curriculum the children engage in playful learning experiences that build upon their knowledge and acquired skills.
The children are doing the data strand in maths and are learning how to organise objects and represent these on a graph. Firstly, we identified the different eye colours in the class. The children had to colour their eye template to represent their own eye colour. We then put these on our graph to make it fun, engaging and meaningful for the children.
Secondly, the children graphed the different colour sweets in a packet of Skittles. They had to count how many of each colour and represent these on a graph! Some graphs magically got smaller as time went on ๐
Finally, we all had to choose our favourite fruit. The children had to colour in their favourite fruit and we put these into a graph form to see what fruits were liked by the children in Senior Infants.
